Why Do They Wear That Tape?

As the Olympics enter the final week of competition, the athletes continue to use various forms of treatment to help their bodies recover and continue to perform at the highest level. You may have seen one of these treatments in the form of a colorful elastic tape. That colorful elastic tape, also known as Kinesio Tape, makes appearances at not only the Olympics but on international playing fields of all levels. The tape works by lifting the skin up and away from sore or injured muscles, while supporting underlying muscles and injured joints without impeding their range of motion. At New Haven Chiropractic & Sports Rehabilitation, Dr. Greg is a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner. He uses this tape to increase the efficacy of his manual therapy for lasting results by helping to alleviate pain, correct movement patterns, improve posture and reduce swelling.
